Reimagining Recreation

A partnership with Rec Technologies

If you're planning on attending any innovation, technology, or A.I. focused education sessions at the 2024 NRPA conference, this message is for you.

Recreation is so much more than just registrations, yet the technology we have access to is only that.

While I use a variety of productivity boosting products to build Parks & Recipes, my suite of software at work is still limited by things that largely haven’t changed since the CLASS days of recreation software.

Since I launched Parks & Recipes, I’ve been inspired to find solutions that can keep up with the evolving demands and expectations of our communities, and the professionals who serve them.

Frankly, the market has become saturated with registration software companies promising a prettier registration experience, but fail to solve some of the same underlying problems we face within our teams.

Recently, I met the team at Rec Technologies, and I was surprised at how different the conversation was.

This was a team of folks that previously worked at places like Uber and Google, and are now asking questions such as:

How can technology help generate more affordable learning in public spaces?

Why can’t booking a picnic table feel like finding an AirBnB?

This is why I’m excited to announce my partnership in support of building Rec Labs. An initiative dedicated to pushing the conversation forward with parks and recreation staff along with technology experts who can make a difference in our communities.

What is Rec Labs?

As professionals who wear many hats, responsible for everything from registrations and reservations to park maintenance and emergency communications, our workflows should be purposeful and efficient, leveraging technology to better serve our communities.

Rec Labs unites parks and recreation leaders with tech experts to explore technology-driven ideas and solutions for our industry.

Want to see Rec Labs in action?

I’m putting together a small group of parks professionals who know what they want their software to do, without coming up with endless workarounds.

These are not sales calls. The point is to hear from you about your experiences and to understand your needs.

The first two focus groups are:

  1. Marketing and Awareness Challenges within Parks and Recreation

  2. Creating Intuitive Self-Service Solutions for Parks and Recreation

If you want to help shape the solutions that will power our industry, let me know in the poll below. We will follow up with a brief email to talk next steps.
